SANDERS, Charles Madison "Charlie," 87, went home to be with his Lord
on Tuesday, May 13, 2008 at The Wayne T. Patrick Hospice House. Born in
Rock Hill, S.C. on October 9, 1920, Mr. Sanders was preceded in death by
his parents, Hugh and Annie Crowell Sanders; his sister, Edith and her husband,
Ralph Jackson; his brothers, Edgar and his wife, Margaret Davis, Carl and
his wife, Eleanor Lupo, Roy Lee and his wife, Ava Price, and Harris and
his wife, Vardell Knox. He graduated from Rock Hill High School in 1938
and attended Wofford College. He served the country as a command pilot in
the U.S. Marine Corps in World War II and the Korean War. Mr. Sanders retired
from the service with the rank of Major. After the service he owned and
operated Sanders Plumbing & Heating Company. In retirement, he loved and
enjoyed his farm on the Catawba River along with his pet cow, Sweetpea,
and his dog, Mittie. He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Georgene
Terry Sanders; his daughters, Carol Terry Coffey and her husband, Tom, of
Rock Hill, Susan Fuqua and her husband, Kevin, of Canyon Lake, Texas, Nancy
Todd and her husband, Jim, of Rock Hill; and his three grandsons, Michael
Coffey of Chapel Hill, N.C., Andrew Coffey of Rock Hill and Robert Adams
of Fort Collins, Colo. A graveside service to Celebrate the Life of Mr.
Sanders will be held Saturday, May 17, 2008 at 11 a.m. at Laurelwood Cemetery,
with Reverend Sandra King officiating and music by Jason Herring. Military
honors will be provided by the U.S. Marine Corps Honor Guard. Memorials
may be made to St. John's United Methodist Church, 321 S. Oakland Avenue,
Rock Hill, S.C. 29730, or The Shriners Hospital for Children, 950 West Faris
Road, Greenville, S.C. 29605, or Hospice and Community Care, 2275 India
